Is ethanol really the answer. From a corn producer, I'd say the answer is no. Too many issues with supply of raw material, transport issues, and cost. There are better alternatives. Using corn for ethanol takes corn away from feed use. The byproduct (distillers grains and gluten)cannot be utilized by simple-stomached animals like pigs and poultry. Big mistake.
Biobutinol has greater promise, but is slow to the party. It uses a larger range of raw materials, can be transported through existing pipelines, is not corrosive, etc. Answers many of the problems of ethanol.
Biodiesel is where it's at, folks. It can be made out of many vegetable oils, and can use re-cycled cooking oil. Most diesel engines can be modified to use up to 100% biodiesel.
